Terms of use

Your State Standards is a free reference that reproduces the K–6 academic standards published by each US state and the District of Columbia. We copy each state's published text, record where it came from and when it was adopted, and link to the source document.

This site is independently run. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the U.S. Department of Education or any state education agency, and nothing here is an official publication of any government body.

The site is made for teachers, administrators, parents and anyone else who needs to read a state’s standards. It is not directed at children and offers no accounts or features for students.

State academic standards are public documents published by state government agencies. We reproduce that text as published and claim no ownership of it. Each state page names the issuing agency and links to the document the text came from. Where a state has asked us to change how its material appears, we will do so.

We do not rewrite, renumber, summarise or reword a standard. Two things on the site are ours rather than the state’s: the subject classification used to group standards, and the crosswalk that maps a state standard to a national one. Both are our editorial judgement and neither carries any official status.

This site is not the authority on any state’s standards. Standards are revised, replaced and reissued, documents move, and our copy is only as current as the date printed on each page. For a curriculum adoption, a compliance question, an evaluation, a legal requirement or anything else that matters, read the state’s own document. Where this site and the state’s document disagree, the state’s document is correct.

We correct what we are told about. Reports go through the contact page.

You are welcome to read the site, link to any page on it, quote from it with attribution, print pages, and use it in your own planning, including commercially. You may not scrape or copy the site in bulk, republish it as your own, remove attribution, present its material as an official government publication, or use automated means that degrade the service for other people.

The site itself, its design, its writing, its subject classification, its crosswalk and its software are ours and are protected by copyright. Nothing in these terms transfers any right in them to you beyond the use described above.

We reproduce government documents, which are generally not subject to copyright in the same way private works are. If you hold rights in something that appears on this site and want it corrected or removed, use the contact page, include the page link and what you would like done, and we will review and act promptly.

The site carries a small number of third-party ads, which help pay for hosting. We do not choose, endorse or vouch for what appears in them, and any dealings you have with an advertiser are between you and them. Ads are always labelled, always sit at the bottom of a page, and never appear inside the standards themselves. Nothing about which standards we carry or how we present them is influenced by advertisers. How ad cookies work is covered in the privacy policy.

Outbound links go to state education agency websites and to TV on a Rolling Cart, which we also run. Those sites have their own terms and content, and we are not responsible for them.

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, that it is complete or current, or that it is fit for any particular purpose.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the site or from reliance on anything published here. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you have paid us to use the site, which is nothing, because it is free. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits.

If something goes wrong, talk to us first through the contact page. Most problems are fixable in a day.

If we cannot work it out, you and we agree that any dispute arising from the site will be resolved by binding arbitration on an individual basis, administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. Both sides waive any right to bring or join a class action or other representative proceeding. Either side may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court. This section does not apply where the law does not allow it. These terms are governed by the law of the State of Georgia, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

We may update or remove content, or change these terms, at any time. The effective date at the top tells you when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
