Indiana K–6 social-emotional learning standards

Indiana writes its own social-emotional learning standards. They are published as Indiana Employability Skills (2019-), adopted 2019 and are not a version of a national framework. Every one is matched to a national standard.

Social and Emotional Skills (SE) strand of the Indiana Employability Skills Standards, adopted for the 2019-20 school year. Twelve K-6 standards across three bands. The Mindsets, Work Ethic and Learning Strategies strands of the same document are excluded as employability rather than SEL.

12 standards, kindergarten through 6th grade

K-2.SE.1K–2
Begin to demonstrate understanding of classroom guidelines/rules, and the consequences when they are not followed.
K-2.SE.2K–2
Begin to take responsibility for classroom roles and role as a learner.
K-2.SE.3K–2
Become aware of socially acceptable behavior with the support of adult educators.
K-2.SE.4K–2
Begin exploring both the similarities and differences between self and others.
K-2.SE.5K–2
Respond appropriately to greetings and begin to learn how nonverbal communication expresses how others feel and what others might be thinking.

Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of choices/actions.

Continue to try to understand how the other students might think, feel, and/or respond.
